Make description

British specialist manufacturer the AC Car Company founded 1901, began building sports cars in the mid-1950s with straight-6 engine of Bristol Cars Limited founded 1945, who is a british manufacturer of hand-built luxury cars. In September 1961, American automotive designer, racing driver and entrepreneur Carroll Hall Shelby (1923-2012), wrote to AC asking if they would build him a car modified to accept a V8 engine. AC agreed, provided a suitable engine could be found. Shelby went to Ford to see if they would provide him with engines. Ford wanted a car that could compete with the Chevrolet Corvette and they happened to have a brand new engine called 2,6 L Ford Zephyr.  In 1962 the AC, Shelby America, and Ford Motor Companies formed a partnership to build sports/race cars for the American market, named AC Cobra (1962-1967). The AC Company shipped cars without engines and transmissions to Shelby America in California. Ford supplied the engines and Shelby America finished the cars.
