Today we will go back to the time of one of the most impressive cars that have been produced in the history of mankind.
Bugatti cars have always been synonymous with luxury, quality and speed.
The founder of this prestigious car brand was Mr. Ettore Bugatti.
His son Jean Bugatti completely designed and created the Type 57, including the famous Atalante model, with which we will take you on a journey through the history of this extremely famous and luxurious car brand.
The Atalante is such a rare subtype of the Type 57 S that only 17 examples were produced with the interior bodywork from the Atalante body shop, and a total of 47 Type 57 Bugatti cars were produced.
Out of those 17 produced examples, or 47 produced examples, only one example is known in the world.
Chassis serial number 57502.
The car with that chassis number was delivered brand new on June 9, 1937, to Mr. Francis Curzon who was a great motorcycle racing enthusiast.
After him, that chassis number changed 3 unknown owners in a short period of time.
The interesting history of this car begins in 1955, when this car was bought by Mr. Dr. Harold Carr, who adored machines and airplanes.
After the car's number plate expired, Carr stored the Bugatti in a locked garage in Gosforth, Newcastle in 1960.
The car was untouched until 2007 when Mr. Carr died.
In 2008, he was discovered quite by accident by his nephew who was cleaning the garage.
Other members of Dr. Carr's family knew about the Bugatti, but they didn't know how much it was really worth on the exclusive vintage car market.
They turned to specialist auction house Bonhams, who suggested Carr's family sell it.
That's what they did, and the car was in front of the public in 2009 at the prestigious exhibition of oldtimers in Paris, called Retromobile Paris.
It was sold in its original condition for 3.5 million euros.
The car was restored, and it was sold in 2020 by the very eminent auction house Gooding & Company for 9.2 million euros.
