Company Maserati is an Italian luxury car manufacturer established in 1914, in Bologna by five Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto. Alfieri Maserati (1887-1932) (leader) was an Italian automotive engineer, known for establishing and leading the Maserati racing car manufacturer with the other Maserati Brothers. Bindo Maserati (1883-1980) was an Italian automotive engineer and businessman, known as the manager of Maserati and one of the Maserati Brothers. Carlo Maserati (1881-1910) was an Italian bicycle and automotive engineer, the eldest of the Maserati Brothers. Ettore Maserati (1894-1990) was an Italian automotive engineer, one of five brothers who founded the Maserati company in Bologna 1914. Ernesto Maserati (1898-1975) was an Italian automotive engineer and racer, one of five brothers who founded the Maserati company in Bologna 1914. The trident logo of the Maserati car company is based on the Fountain of Neptune on square Piazza Maggiore in Bologna. The trident is the weapon of Poseidon, or Neptune, the god of the sea in classical mythology. It was considered particularly appropriate for the sports car company due to fact that Neptune represents strength and vigour; additionally the statue is a characteristic symbol of the company's original home city. In 1937, the remaining Maserati brothers sold their shares in the company to the Adolfo Orsi family, who in 1940 relocated the company headquarters to their home town of Modena, where it remains to this day. Adolfo Orsi (1888-1972) was an Italian industrialist, known for owning the Maserati automobile marque. After 10 year contract with Adolfo Orsi, Maserati brothers left company, and founded their new company named O.S.C.A.. O.S.C.A. (Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili—Fratelli Maserati S.p.A.) (1947-1967) was an Italian manufacturer of racing and sports cars founded by the Maserati brothers. In 1968, Maserati was taken over by French car manufacturer Citroën. Citroën is a major French automobile manufacturer, founded in 1919 by French industrialist André-Gustave Citroën (1878–1935). In 1976, Maserati was taken over by Italian sports car manufacturer De Tomaso. In 1989, Maserati was taken over by Italian car manufacturer Fiat together with De Tomaso. In 1993, Maserati was taken over by Italian car manufacturer Fiat. In 1999, Maserati was taken over by Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari. The Maserati and Alfa Romeo group, under Fiat Group, started in 2005, when Maserati was split off from Ferrari and partnered with Alfa Romeo. In 2010, Fiat announced that it had created a new partnership/brand group for Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Abarth.
