Make description

Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. is an Italian luxury car manufacturer. The company was founded as Società Anonima Italiana Darracq (SAID) in 1906 by the French automobile company of Alexandre Darracq (1855-1931), with some Italian investors. In late 1909, the Italian Darracq cars were selling slowly and the Italian partners of the company hired Giuseppe Merosi (1872-1956) for designing new cars. On June 24, 1910, a new company was founded in Milan (the region Lombardy) named A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili), initially still in partnership with Darracq. In August 1915 the company came under the direction of Neapolitan entrepreneur and engineer Nicola Romeo (1876-1938), who converted the factory to produce military hardware for the Italian and Allied war efforts. In 1920, the name of the company was changed to Alfa Romeo. In 1923 Vittorio Jano (1891-1965) was lured from Fiat, partly thanks to the persuasion of a young Alfa racing driver named Enzo Ferrari, to replace Merosi as chief designer at Alfa Romeo. Alfa Romeo has competed very successfully in many different categories of motorsport, including Grand Prix motor racing, Formula One, sportscar racing, touring car racing and rallies. Alfa Romeo racing team was founded in 1929 by great racing driver Enzo Ferrari (1898-1988). In 1963 was founded in Udine, Alfa Romeo’s competition department named Auto-Delta which is started by former Alfa Romeo and Ferrari engineers, Carlo Chiti (1924-1994) and Lodovico Chizzola.
